How Seen works

Nearby is just the beginning.

Seen helps people sharing the same place notice one another, start a conversation, and decide whether they want to stay connected.

01

Choose when to be seen

Turn on visibility when you’re open to being discovered nearby. Your profile can then appear to other people sharing the same place and moment.

You can turn visibility off whenever you want. You can still explore Nearby while hidden, but you’ll need to become visible before messaging someone new.

02

Share what’s happening

Add a short status to share what you’re doing or what you’re up for.

Post a story with a photo and caption that stays visible for 24 hours.

Add photos to your profile that remain there until you remove them.

You control who can see what you share through your privacy settings.

03

Start with a message

When someone catches your attention, open their profile and say hello.

You must be visible to message someone who isn’t already your friend. This keeps new conversations connected to a shared, real-life moment.

04

Connect when it feels mutual

After you’ve each sent at least one message, the Add friend option becomes available.

Either person can send a friend request. You become friends only after the other person accepts it.

Once you’re friends, you can continue messaging even when you’re no longer nearby or your nearby visibility is turned off.

05

Stay in control

You decide when you’re visible, what profile details other people can see, and whether a conversation continues.

Each supported profile detail can be set individually to Nearby, Friends, or Private, or you can apply one setting to everything.

You can remove a friend, block someone, or report a concern from their profile or conversation.

How invitations work

Invite someone to Seen.

During early access, some members receive a limited number of invitations.

Tap Invite from the Nearby screen or Settings, then choose how you want to share it. Each invitation creates a unique link that can be used by one person to join Seen.

If you close the share screen without sending it, the invitation is returned automatically. After the person successfully joins, the invitation becomes available to you again.

Inviting someone sends them a personal link to join Seen. It does not automatically make you friends or share either person’s profile or location.
