Your information
Privacy Policy
Seen helps people connect with others nearby when they choose to be visible. This policy applies to the Seen mobile apps, seenirl.com, and related Seen services. It explains the information Seen uses, why it is used, and the choices available to you.
Effective and last updated: September 14, 2026
The short version
- You decide when your profile is visible nearby.
- Seen uses Bluetooth-based proximity signals for nearby features, not to determine your exact address.
- We do not sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising.
- You can manage profile visibility, block or report users, and delete your account in the app.
Information Seen uses
Account and profile information
When you create an account, Seen uses information such as your email address, username, profile details, profile photo, birthday, and privacy choices. Some profile information is optional. Your birthday is used to confirm that you meet Seen's minimum age requirement.
Content and social activity
Seen stores the messages, photos, profile updates, reports, and other content you choose to create or send.
Automated content checks
Seen uses Google Cloud Vision SafeSearch and Cloud Natural Language to check new shared images and public-facing text, including profile fields, statuses, captions, check-ins, and Place content. The relevant image or text is sent to Google Cloud for analysis before publication. These checks can prevent a post or upload and can make mistakes. If you believe a check is wrong, contact support@seenirl.com. Private messages and private business verification documents are not sent to these automated screening services. Blocking, reporting, and human review remain available.
Nearby features
When nearby visibility is on, Seen uses Bluetooth to find other Seen users nearby. Bluetooth is used for proximity and does not provide a reliable exact distance or street address.
Device information and analytics
Seen receives basic app, device, and usage information needed to operate, secure, troubleshoot, and improve the service.
Seen uses Google Analytics for Firebase to understand app usage and improve Seen. Analytics may use an app-specific identifier and basic device information. Seen does not use analytics for advertising.
Seen uses Google Analytics on seenirl.com to understand website visits and link selections. Google Analytics may use cookies or similar technology and basic device information. Seen does not use website analytics for targeted advertising. Learn more about how Google processes information.
How Seen uses information
We use information to:
- create, authenticate, secure, and manage accounts;
- provide nearby discovery, profiles, messaging, connections, and content;
- apply your visibility choices and keep blocked users separated;
- deliver service messages and in-app notifications;
- prevent abuse, investigate reports, enforce rules, and protect users and the service;
- maintain, debug, monitor, and improve Seen; and
- comply with legal obligations and valid legal requests.
What other people can see
Seen lets you set each supported profile detail individually to Nearby, Friends, or Private, or apply one setting to everything. Your selected username and any content you intentionally share may be seen by the audience shown in the app. People may save or share information they can view, so avoid posting information you do not want others to retain.
Turning nearby visibility off removes your profile from new nearby results. A recent result may remain briefly while devices and services update.
When information is shared
Seen may share information:
- To other users: according to the feature you use and your profile visibility choices.
- To service providers: companies that provide authentication, hosting, storage, analytics, notifications, maps, database, and other services needed to operate Seen. Service providers are required to handle information appropriately and only for the services they provide.
- For safety and legal reasons: when reasonably necessary to investigate abuse, protect rights or safety, comply with law, or respond to valid legal process.
Seen does not sell personal information or share it for targeted advertising.
Retention and account deletion
You can permanently close your account from Profile Menu → Account → Delete account. Your profile disappears from Nearby and you can no longer sign in, send messages, or receive notifications. Your account cannot be restored. Removal from our ordinary app systems starts automatically and normally completes within 24 hours. This is separate from the safety retention below.
For 90 days after your deletion request, we keep a restricted safety copy of your account identifiers and contact information, profile, existing messages and conversation context, photos and other shared content, and moderation records. This allows us to investigate harmful or unlawful activity reported after account closure, even if no report existed when you deleted your account. We do not retain login credentials or push tokens as part of this safety copy, and do not use it to restore your account, provide ordinary app features, advertise, or analyze product usage.
Only authorized personnel may access retained records for a documented safety investigation; access is logged. At the end of 90 days, the safety copy is automatically scheduled for erasure. Specific evidence needed for an investigation or an applicable legal obligation may be held longer, with a recorded justification and review or expiry date. The hold applies to selected evidence, not an automatic extension of the whole account. Expired records are unavailable to administrators while erasure retries.
Save the status link offered after account closure to see the safety retention deadline and cleanup status. To report harm involving a deleted account, contact support@seenirl.com with its username, approximate dates, and any conversation reference or evidence you already have. A report does not guarantee that data still exists; expired or previously erased information cannot be recovered.
Backup copies expire on the provider's backup schedule and are not used to restore deleted accounts to the service. Copies another person saved outside Seen may remain on their device. Shared business or venue records may remain for their other members, with personal account attribution removed.
Your choices and requests
- Change nearby visibility from the Nearby screen.
- Change profile-field audiences in Profile Menu → Privacy.
- Edit profile details and remove supported content in the app.
- Disable Bluetooth, nearby-device, camera, photo, or notification access in your device settings.
- Block or report another user from their profile or conversation.
- Delete your account from the Account screen.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of personal information, or to object to or restrict certain processing. Email support@seenirl.com with the subject “Privacy request.” We may need to verify that the request concerns your account before responding.
Security
Seen uses technical and organizational safeguards designed to protect information. You should also protect access to your device, email account, and Seen password.
Minimum age
Seen is intended only for people who are at least 16 years old. Do not create or use an account if you are under 16. If we learn that an underage person has provided personal information, we may disable the account and take steps to delete or de-identify the information. Parents or guardians can report a concern through our Support page.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Seen changes. We will update the date at the top and provide additional notice in the app or by email when a change is material and notice is required.
